Volunteer Spotlight: Jeff

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Jeff

Why do you volunteer? To serve others and set a good example for my son. I have PTSD and this past year has been difficult for me, so volunteering pushed me to be in the community. There is value in being able to help others, and in doing so, I have furthered my own healing. Being able to support veterans as well, because they hold a special place in my heart.

What was your biggest takeaway from volunteering? I’ve learned to help people more. All people are different, but it doesn’t matter what our differences are, we’re supposed to care for each other.

What volunteering experience stood out the most? I had a nice talk with a gentleman at the arena during the Detroit Red Wings’ Military Appreciation Night. He was going through a tough time and bought some raffle tickets from me. We talked about the work we do and our experiences. We talked the whole night and he thanked me. It was a very unique experience.

Jeff is a Lieutenant with the Michigan Department of Corrections. He loves his son and enjoys fishing and golfing. We are so thankful for Jeff, for stepping out of his comfort zone and being such a wonderful volunteer!
