Volunteer Spotlight: Andrea

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Andrea

Why do you volunteer? Since I was a child, my parents stressed the importance of giving back to the community. Giving back is one of the qualities of love, and you should put love into everything you do. If I was in a difficult situation I would want someone to care about me.

What was your biggest takeaway from volunteering? Different things…Serving and cooking in the kitchen gave me the chance to talk to veterans and learn their story. It’s always fascinating. Through these experiences I’ve learned to be more personable with people who are different than me.

What volunteering experience stood out the most? Operation Backpack was my best experience through your organization. I didn’t know that many children were at risk of being homeless. Just to know that the backpacks we were preparing were fulfilling a need touched me the most.

Volunteer experiences: Operation Backpack and serving at the Call Sam Kitchen.
