Friday Feature: Sam O. Gbadamosi

"I always want our affordable housing locations to be at 100% occupancy, because if we have an available unit, that means there is a space for someone who needs it. I can’t imagine having a space open and not having someone in need find rest there."

Sam's story

Your name: Sam O. Gbadamosi, B.Ed (Hons) Master of Arts; PGCE; RE Broker

Your role at Volunteers of America Michigan: I am the Director of Operations - Housing.

What brought you to this position? I was looking for a job opportunity that would allow me to return to Michigan. I was working in New Orleans, Louisiana and wanted to come home to my family.

What is your biggest takeaway from working with Volunteers of America Michigan? There is an overwhelming need to help and assist so many people. Since I was from the for-profit world, I had little appreciation for the level of need. I was quite surprised at the start but have really found a way to bring my two worlds together.

What is your biggest challenge in this position? My biggest challenge is not being able to help everyone. I always want our affordable housing locations to be at 100% occupancy, because if we have an available unit, that means there is a space for someone who needs it. I can’t imagine having a space open and not having someone in need find rest there.

Where is your dream vacation spot? London, England.

What is your favorite book? My favorite book is “Animal Farm” by George Orwell.

How do you spend your time outside of the office? The church; the ministry and my family.
