Friday Feature: Lorraine Waterloo
A soldier gives back
Lorraine’s Story
Your name: Lorraine Waterloo
Your role at Volunteers of America Michigan: Operations Manager, Auto Sales
What brought you to this position? I spent years in the military. First as a soldier, then as the spouse of a Non-commissioned Officer. During this time, I spent a lot of hours volunteering at the local military post. That is when I realized the need to provide assistance for the needy, the hungry, low income families, and the young military families. So I decided to look for an opportunity to help and better my local community and I have enjoyed every minute of it.
What is your biggest takeaway from working with Volunteers of America Michigan? Knowing that what we do as a team both directly and indirectly makes a difference for the veterans, families, and individuals we serve.
What is your biggest challenge in this position? One of the many challenges I face is not knowing what to expect. We never know what each day will bring us. Whether is a car, boat, motor home or household item donation, everything is considered a blessing to Volunteers of America Michigan. I am amazed by the generosity of our donors.
Where is your dream vacation spot? Somewhere on a beach with my toes in the sand, like Bora Bora. :)
What is your favorite book? “The Outsiders” by S.E. Hinton
How do you spend your time outside of the office? I do a lot of relaxing, cooking, and spending quality time with my daughters, husband, and my fur-baby, Berkley.
