Your name: Kim Salama

Your role at Volunteers of America Michigan: I work with the Adopt A Family program as a Call Center Specialist.

What brought you to this position? A couple years ago, my son, Jack, organized a donation drive to collect backpacks and school supplies for Operation Backpack®. We found everyone at Volunteers of America Michigan very welcoming, friendly and appreciative. My family has adopted a family for the holidays for several years. Last year, I learned about the position to help with the Adopt A Family program and knew I wanted to get involved. I loved working with the program last year so I have come back to help again this holiday season.

What is your biggest takeaway from working with Volunteers of America Michigan? Working here reminds me how much it really does “take a community.” When we all work together, we can accomplish great things both large and small.

What is your biggest challenge in this position? I would say my biggest challenge is mastering the best use of my time!

Where is your dream vacation spot? That’s a hard question. I love a mix of city time and nature time.

What is your favorite book? I’m not sure I have a favorite. I like most John Irving and Barbara Kingsolver books.

How do you spend your time outside of the office? Mostly with my kids! We’re a busy group!
