Your name: Joseph Rodgers, just call me Joe.

Your role at Volunteers of America Michigan: Service Coordinator for Supportive Services for Veteran Families.

What brought you to this position? Two years ago, I was transporting elderly and disabled passengers on a 16 passenger bus, 50 hours a week and someone said to me “I think you’d be a good fit here with Volunteers of America Michigan.” I saw the opportunity, agreed, and I have been here ever since.

What is your biggest takeaway from working with Volunteers of America Michigan? My biggest takeaway is meeting people, hearing their story, seeing them smile, and getting to watch them progress. Even it’s just adding a hint of positive perspective to their mindset.

What is your biggest challenge in this position? Seeing individuals struggle with situations I can’t assist in.

Where is your dream vacation spot? Vacation? I’ve been working two jobs since 2013.....hopefully, one day soon I’ll get on the right path to a vacation destination - anywhere peaceful.

What is your favorite book? My favorite book is by the sports analyst/broadcaster, Stuart Scott and Larry Platt,“Every Day I Fight: Making a Difference, Kicking Cancer’s *** ”

How do you spend your time outside of the office? My family. Bri, my wife, Kylee my 7-year-old daughter, and Rex my 15-month-old son.
