Jennifer's story

Your name: Jennifer Sena

Your role at Volunteers of America Michigan: Program Assistant for the Detroit Veterans Housing Program.

What brought you to this position? A friend of mine told me about the opportunity and thought I would be the perfect fit for the job. I am passionate about helping others, especially the veterans we serve.

What is your biggest takeaway from working with Volunteers of America Michigan? I love seeing the progression in the veterans that come into our program and hearing their success stories. Another takeaway is getting to be a part of such an important mission, one that I believe in and gives me great happiness and fulfillment.

What is your biggest challenge in this position? Seeing the overwhelming amount of people that need help in our community is a challenge for me, I try to stay positive and focus on the mission at hand.

Where is your dream vacation spot? I would love to travel to Italy! There are so many cities that I want to explore. The first stop would be traveling the Amalfi Coast, seeing the beautiful blue beaches along the mountain side homes is a sight I must see.

What is your favorite book? I haven’t had the time to sit down and read lately. I’m more into podcasts, my favorite one Is Oprah’s Super Soul Conversations.

How do you spend your time outside of the office? When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my two Chihuahuas Layla and Bella. I also love trying new restaurants and creating new memories and experiences. I am also a realtor, I help people find homes. I do this after work and on the weekends.
