Brandy's story

Your name: Brandy Sturgeon

Your role at Volunteers of America Michigan: I am the Administrative Coordinator for our thrift stores.

What brought you to this position? My love of thrifting! I also love our mission and the people that I get to work with every day. I am so glad I get to be a part of all of the hard work that goes into running this organization.

What is your biggest takeaway from working with Volunteers of America Michigan? Structure. Personal outline for me to get tasks done, or delegating team responsibilities, planning for floor moves, and knowing what steps I have to take to get something accomplished. It can be something as tiny as what I am going to have my staff work on for the day, or as grand as steps to take to open up a whole new thrift store.

What is your biggest challenge in this position? Keeping the work flow at a productive level while dealing with staffing challenges.

Where is your dream vacation spot? I absolutely love New Orleans!

What is your favorite book? No favorite, but I am currently reading “Cured: The tale of two imaginary boys” by Lol Tolhurst, which is fantastic.

How do you spend your time outside of the office? Spending time with my family, going to the movies, concerts, thrifting, and antique shopping.
