Your name: Amanda Diaz

Your role at Volunteers of America Michigan: Outreach Specialist AmeriCorps with our Supportive Services for Veteran Families program.

What brought you to this position? I wanted to work veterans. I applied and interviewed for the position. This is the first year that Volunteers of America Michigan has had an AmeriCorps member working in Detroit. I am excited for the opportunity.

What is your biggest takeaway from working with Volunteers of America Michigan? My biggest takeaway is, you have to ask questions, learn as much as you can, and train as much as you can. This will help you do your job the best way possible.

What is your biggest challenge in this position? Networking and building relationships with our veterans. Sometimes it can be difficult to obtain all the information needed to help our clients.

Where is your dream vacation spot? New Zealand. I have been there before and it was the best hiking I have been able to walk.

What is your favorite book? “Dune” written by Frank Herbert.

How do you spend your time outside of the office? I like to watch movies at the movie theater year round and in the warm weather, I like to go hiking and kayaking.
